Nutella Swirl Blondies

I remember the very first time I had Nutella.  I was at BlogHerFood 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia.  I was sitting in a coffee shop with Josie and Courtney poring over the most delicious looking coffee and breakfast menu.  Courtney’s description of the deliciousness of Nutella pretty much sealed the deal on my breakfast.  I do believe my fancy coffee and my breakfast crepes were doused in a healthy dose of the chocolatey hazelnut goodness.

When Josie sent the email out about Courtney’s virtual baby shower, I immediately knew I was going to make something with Nutella for her.  I KNOW she adores it and I know if she was able to have this dessert in real life, she’d be in heaven.

As I was stirring the Nutella into the blondie batter I started thinking about this entry on the blog and deciding what I wanted to tell you about Courtney.  The first thing that popped into my mind was how much she loves her husband.  Her love for Eric is just obvious and inspiring.  That fact alone is going to make them the best parents.

Congratulations Courtney and Eric!  And be sure to check out the full round ups here and here.

Nutella Swirl Blondies (Gingerbread Bagels)

Ingredients

1 cup all purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1 large egg, at room temperature
3 1/2 Tablespoons Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8 by 8 baking pan and set aside.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and kosher salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the packed light brown sugar, melted unsalted butter and vanilla extract.
  4. Once combined, mix in the beaten egg.
  5. Slowly add in the dry ingredients until almost combined.
  6. Take a spatula and fold the ingredients together.
  7. Evenly spread the blondie batter into the baking pan.
  8. Measure out the Nutella. Drop the Nutella on top of the blondie batter.
  9. Drop the Nutella in three rows. (three drops in each row)
  10. Swirl the Nutella up and down. Then back and forth.
  11. Bake at 350 degrees for 17-20 minutes.

These look fantastic, Branny. I love Nutella but don’t eat it nearly as often as I’d like. I know I’d love it with blondies. So glad you now have Nutella in your life. :)

Definitely the perfect choice for Courtney.  I feel so honored that I was able to be present for your first Nutella experience :)

Nutella is so delicious; I’m glad Courtney and Josie convinced you/forced you to try it.  These blondies are such a perfect and thoughtful addition to Courtney’s shower.  Great work, Branny!

Very nice choice, and very sweet post.  Glad you finally tried Nutella!  I only learned about it a few years ago myself.

Courtney and Josie were wise for forcing you to try Nutella! :) And, thanks for sharing that tidbit about Courtney.  So refreshing!  I recently used up my Nutella, and now you’ve given me a reason to go buy some more.  Thanks, a lot, Branny!!  ;)

You’re such a sweetheart! I love that you made something with Nutella; I can’t think of anything more appropriate. I won’t get to see you at BHF this year, but I hope we get to meet again soon. :)

Oh, sweet Lord.  These are going on my must-do list ASAP.  There were giant jars of Nutella on sale at the store the other night.  Looks like I am going back for some.  :)

Ooh I love nutella and can’t imagine how good it tastes in a blondie.  Great idea! I must try these soon.  Your post on Courtney was so sweet– a very nice tribute!

Part of me is shocked you never had nutella before last year.  But then I start thinking about it, and given how well you eat (when you husband is in the same state as you ;-) ) it’s not really that shocking after all.

If you can believe it, I still haven’t had nutella. I really need to try it. And this sounds like an excellent way to do it :)

Instead of using the 8×8 pan, did you bake these in mini muffin tins?  If so, how many does the recipe yield and did you have to adjust the baking time?  Thanks!

    • admin

I actually used regular muffin tins that time. I think I baked for 16 minutes.

About 12 mini blondies and I baked them for 18 minutes.

When you say “mini” muffin tins, do you mean the size that would make kind of a standard looking muffin/cupcake, or do you mean little bite-sized muffin tins? Thanks!

        • admin

          I meant regular sized. Sorry!

  • Jean

I like how you made these in the muffin tins. How long did you bake them for?

       About 18 minutes
