Who are you?

I’m Branny.  My name isn’t really Branny.  But that’s what you can call me.

I’m in my mid-20s living on a horse farm in South Carolina and feeding my husband, the Omnivore.

I call my husband the Omnivore because for a good long while I was a vegetarian.  While I am eating meat now, it is a rare occasion, so you’ll find my blog to be mostly vegetarian and mostly healthy. If you’re feeding a family of mixed eaters, be sure to check out the tags on the right hand side of the blog.  They will lead you to recipes that are tried-and-true vegetarian meals but have been successful served with the addition of meat (cooked separately, added to the end).

Comments make my day, so don’t be shy!  Email me at brannyboilsover@gmail.com.  Follow me @brannyboilsover on twitter.  And be sure to find me on Facebook!

Brady, Saw your mom yesterday in Columbia. Was thrilled to hear from you and delighted to see her and catch up on her life.
Your recipes sound wonderful. You have remained one of my favorites. I am years older since seeing you but have thought
of you often. Your life sounds exciting and happy. My best to you.

Hi Branny. I just discovered your site (via my sister through your mom). I loved this site as soon as I saw it and can’t wait to start in on these recipes. It is a very easy to navigate blog (and very visually luring!). I have just sent this link to a number of friends up here in Canada. If you decide to turn these recipes into a cookbook add me to the list of people in line! I’ll be checking in. Cheers, Tamara

Welcome welcome! Thanks for the compliments and enjoy the ride. Who knows — if veterinary school doesn’t work out, a cookbook just might :)

    Hi Branny,

I just discovered your blog and have been reading it for the better part of today! I am SO intrigued by your recipes! I’m going to attempt either the spanakopita’s or the southwest cous cous salad. Both look (and sound) FANTASTIC!!

Thanks for such a great website, and all your hard work :)

Wow this is very interesting. I cannot wait to pass it on to my family. I’m definately going to have to pick out some recipes. I love to cook and we try to eat healthy. Stay well! Hello to Mrs. Stewart up there :-)

    • brannyboilsover

Can you believe Mrs Stewart dropped in on my blog!? Crazy. Mom ran into her at Steinmart one day. Rumor has it, she’s still exactly the same!

  • Tebbe

oooh food I knew there was something special about you! I am going to add some to our rotation.

I like your attitude toward your choice not to eat meat. I think a lot of vegetarians get a bad rap from the people who get preachy about it. Being an omnivore myself, I’m very picky about the meat I do eat (for similar reasons why you don’t eat meat), and I would always accommodate a vegetarian that came to my house. :)

  • http://theobserverinsight.com Jen Rothacker

Hi, there. My name is Jen Rothacker and I’m a writer/editor at the Charlotte Observer. Kathleen Purvis suggested I email you. We’re Beta testing a new website on Facebook called Insight. Our goal is for bloggers to post a few paragraphs of a blog entry on the site (you can do this every time you have a new post) and then link back to their original blog. Everyday, we’ll feature a couple of the blogs and promote them on CharlotteObserver.com. The ultimate goal is to have a site where folks can get a glimpse of who’s blogging about what in NC/Charlotte, and for those bloggers to get more traffic.

That said, I’d love it if you’d post to Insight. Just go to theobserverinsight.com and register (which you can do via your Facebook log in). Go to the “Share your blogs and stories” tab and then click on “Excerpt your blog” and go from there. Include enough paragraphs to get folks interested but wanting more.

Let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to pass this on to fellow bloggers.

OMG! Happened on your site by accident looking for spaghetti sauce recipes for my crockpot. How refreshing to read your blog. You have a completely laid back and easy to follow style to your writing. When I read that the chances you will never brown meat prior to placing in crockpot were slim to none, I instantly felt a connection! lol. Anyway, your blog has been placed on my favorites – love your style, love your story, and am sure I will love your sauce!

    Hi Branny,
Love your blog! I recently lost 45 pounds with exercise and healthy food. I am now trying to eat less meat. I made your Apple Sausage today and want to do the Chicken version. You mention several ways to prepare the final product but what about storage? After steaming can I freeze? Without freezing how long can I expect the product to last in the fridge?
Thanks for blogging. I will visit often. You are now “Bookmarked”.

Thanks for visiting my blog! Congrats on your weight loss and diet change. I think that the Chicken Apple Sausages are the most underappreciated recipe on the blog (well, really, all of the meat substitutes are). As far as storing the meat substitutes, they can definitely be frozen in the aluminum foil wraps that they are cooked in for up to 3 months. I would feel comfortable simply refrigerating them for up to a week as well. Enjoy!

Hi there, I have stumbled across your blog through the WordPress dashboard, and I am glad I did. I have a food blog myself, please check it out! (www.ezsrecipes.com) Aside from blogging about food, though, I feel like we have a lot in common. (I love animals, I TRIED to be a vegetarian for some of the same reasons as you – I still struggle with eating meat, and I, too am concerned with environmental responsibility, to name a few.) So I will definitely be coming back to your blog. One more thing we have in common? We have the same background. Off to a good start! Haha! Nice to have met you! :)
